What is DNS?
When someone enters your domain name, DNS translates it into the technical destination for your website, email or other service. DNS records are small instructions stored for the domain. They can be managed by us, or by your web host or another provider if you prefer.
The records you will hear about most often
A record
An A record points a name, usually your main domain, to the IPv4 address of a web server. It is commonly used to make a website appear at your domain.
MX record
An MX record tells other mail systems where to deliver incoming email. It points to the email provider rather than to your website.
TXT record
A TXT record holds text used for domain ownership checks and email authentication, including SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
Other records
AAAA records support IPv6 addresses; CNAME records point one name to another; nameservers identify who manages the DNS zone.
Who should manage your DNS?

Your host can manage it
Your web host, email provider or technical team can manage DNS instead. We can change the nameservers or provide the necessary domain details so they can look after the zone.
A DNS change can affect more than one service. We review the current records first and do not remove unrelated entries simply to add a new one.
